UN endorses Goldstone Report for Gaza Strip

GAZA STRIP | The United Nations Human Rights Council endorsed the Goldstone Report, also known as the UN Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza conflict.The mission was established on April 3, 2009 by the President of the UNHRC. Richard Goldstone of South Africa was appointed to head the mission, after Mary Robinson of Ireland refused. The other members of the mission were Christine Chinkin of the United Kingdom, Hina Jilani of Pakistan and Desmond Travers of Ireland.The mission's final report was released September 15, 2009 and accused both the Palestinian militants and Israeli Defense Forces of war crimes and possible crimes against humanity, and recommended that each side conduct their own investigations and bring those responsible to justice. Both Israel and Hamas rejected the report's findings,and Israel did not co-operate in the preparation of the report. On October 16, 2009, The UN Human Rights Council endorsed the report.

The Iranian leader issued stinging attacks on the United States and its allies without calling them by name, and delegations from several nations, including the U.S., walked out during the speech, partly in protest of Ahmadinejad’s past statements blasting Israel and denying the holocaust.

But he also has faced pressure from the West to come clean about Iran’s nuclear program. Moments before he spoke, foreign ministers of six global powers told reporters on the sidelines of the General Assembly that they are optimistic, and tougher sanctions against Iran are being considered if talks between the powers and Iran on the issue, set for Oct. 1, don't yield results

Ahmadinejad didn't address Iran's nuclear program directly in his speech, but he assailed what he called “despicable forms of intimidation and deceit in the name of freedom.”

“It is no longer possible to humiliate nations and impose double standards on the world community,” Ahmadinejad said, according to the English interpreter.

And he assailed Israel for what he said was a "barbaric" attack on the Gaza Strip last winter.

The adversarial stance was nothing new from Ahmadinejad, and Western diplomats immediately dismissed it as more of the same.

According to Reports,several World leaders walked out even before Ahmadinejad even spoke. President Sarkozy (France) and President Obama (USA) told Iran to talk about their nuclear program.

UN:Libyan leader Praises Obama at UN General Assembly

NEW YORK | Libyan Leader Muammar al-Gaddafi (pictured) praised Obama and said Obama should be President forever. He stated that Obama was like a son (due to both having African heritage;Obama's father is Kenyan). The controversial leader spoke to the UN and was very Anti-Western in his speech. There was also some controversy of where he should be staying while in New York. He was kicked out of Englewood,NJ and just now, Westchester County,NY. He is reportedly staying at his nation's mission. He is highly controversial due to the Libyan welcome of the Pan-Am 103 (London-New York)/Lockerbie,Scotland bomber that was released from a Scottish prison on 'sympathy' due to his illness. UN:Sanctions against North Korea

 

NEW YORK- The United Nations Security Council has put up sanctions against North Korea’s nuclear program. North Korea may ignore the sanctions and continue its missile production. This Resolution (#1874) includes:

Authorization of member states to inspect North Korean cargo on land, sea and air, and to destroy any goods suspected of being connected to the DPRK's nuclear program.

Requires the North Korean government to return immediately to the six-party talks and renounce its announcement of withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Preventing financial services that could contribute to the nuclear or ballistic missile related programs.

Instructs member states not to provide financial assistance to the DPRK nuclear program, or enter into loans with the country, except for humanitarian or developmental reasons.

Extending the arms embargo on North Korea by banning all weapons exports from the country and most imports, with an exception to small arms, light weapons and related material - though member states must notify the Security Council five days prior to selling the weapons

Demands that North Korea should halt its nuclear weapons program and conduct no further nuclear or missile tests.

Asks member states to notify the Council of steps they are taking to implement the sanctions within 45 days.

Affirming the Security Council's commitment to a peaceful, diplomatic resolution to the situation.

WORLD:World Health Org declares Swine Flu a PANDEMIC.

GENEVA,Switzerland – The UN agency,The World Health Organization has declared a Swine flu pandemic and released a report stating "74 countries have officially reported 27,737 cases of influenza A(H1N1) infection, including 141 deaths".Most of the infected are currently in the United States due to the proximity of the origin of the swine flu,Mexico. The US has 16,000+ cases and 57 deaths. While Mexico has 6,241 cases with over 108 deaths and 77 suspected deaths.
